Continental Briefing — 21 October 2026
Yesterday was a mixed and ultimately negative session for the book. We took 14 trades across US30, XAUUSD, EURNZD, NAS100, AUDUSD, EURUSD, GBPCHF, NZDCAD, USDJPY and US500, finishing with 7 wins and 7 losses for a net result of -42.1 pips.
The win rate was balanced, but the distribution of losses did the damage. That usually points to one of two things: either the market was too choppy for clean continuation, or exits were not tight enough once momentum failed. Equity indices and gold both showed tradable movement, but the structure was not consistently one-directional. In that type of tape, pressing marginal setups can quickly turn a flat day into a red one.
The main takeaway is practical: when the hit rate is 50% and the day still closes negative, trade selection and loss size matter more than the number of opportunities. Today requires a cleaner read, especially with inflation data on the calendar.

The focus today is inflation. At 02:00 UTC, the market gets UK CPI y/y, followed by New Zealand CPI q/q at 17:45 UTC. Both releases are capable of moving rate expectations, so we should expect sharp spreads, fast repricing and potential fake breaks around the numbers.
GBPUSD is the first asset on watch. A hotter UK CPI print would likely support sterling through higher yield expectations, but the better trade may come after the first reaction settles. If price spikes into resistance and fails to hold, fading the move could be cleaner than chasing it. If CPI misses, downside pressure could build quickly, particularly if the dollar remains firm.
NZDUSD is the second asset to monitor into the later session. New Zealand CPI can be thin-liquidity sensitive, so execution risk matters. I will be looking for a confirmed break-and-hold rather than reacting to the first candle. A strong CPI number may give NZD a lift, while a soft print could renew selling pressure.
Plan for today: reduce size into the release windows, avoid entering directly on the headline candle, and only scale risk once the market shows acceptance beyond key levels. After yesterday’s loss, discipline is more important than being early.
